EATING OUT

A few tips for ordering Jain food.

A little care when you order goes a long way, especially at places that are new to you.

  1. Ask for Jain food

Ask for dishes without onion, garlic, potatoes, or other root vegetables. Many kitchens are happy to adjust a dish if you ask.

  2. Check for eggs

Some bakeries, dessert shops, and cafés use eggs. If a place is not marked eggless, ask before you order.

  3. Watch for honey and gelatin

Honey is not part of a Jain diet, and some desserts contain gelatin. Ask if you are not sure.

  4. Always confirm

The stamps on this page come from community experience, and menus change. Please confirm with the restaurant when you order.
