Privacy Policy
EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2026
Jain Center of British Columbia (JCBC) respects the privacy of our members, volunteers, donors, and everyone who visits our website or takes part in our programs. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the choices you have.
JCBC is a registered charity (No. 86705 6749 RR0001) based in Surrey, BC. This policy follows the principles of British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). By using our website or taking part in JCBC programs, you agree to the practices described here.
What information we collect
We only collect personal information when we reasonably need it to run JCBC and serve our community. This may include:
- Name, email address, phone number, and mailing address
- Membership and family details, for membership records
- Details you share when registering for events or programs such as Pathshala, Youth Group, or CarePath
- Donation records, including donor name and contact details, for tax receipts
- Basic website usage information, collected automatically (see Cookies and website analytics below)
How we use your information
We use personal information only for the reason it was collected, or for a closely related reason, including:
- Sharing news with members and participants about events, classes, and the community
- Processing memberships and renewals
- Issuing donation receipts and keeping accurate financial records
- Coordinating volunteers and programs
- Improving our website and services
We never sell, rent, or trade personal information. We will not use it for any other purpose without asking for your consent first.
Your consent
When you give JCBC your personal information, for example to become a member, join a program, or make a donation, you consent to its use as described in this policy.
You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits, by contacting us. Withdrawing consent may affect what we can do for you, such as issuing a tax receipt or keeping your membership active.
How we protect your information
We use reasonable physical, administrative, and technical safeguards to protect personal information from loss, theft, and unauthorized access or use. Only board members and volunteers who need it for their role can access member, donor, and program records.
No method of storing or sending information online is completely secure, but we take this responsibility seriously and review our practices regularly.
Service providers and other websites
We may use trusted service providers to help us run JCBC, for example for email, ticketing, payments, or website hosting and analytics. They receive personal information only as needed for their task and may not use it for anything else.
Our website may link to other websites. JCBC is not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please review their policies separately.
Privacy for children and youth programs
JCBC runs programs for children and youth, including Pathshala and the Youth Group. For participants under 13, we collect personal information only from a parent or legal guardian, and only what we need to register the child, communicate about the program, and keep them safe while in our care.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 in any other way. Parents and guardians can contact us at any time to review, update, or remove their child's information.
Accessing and correcting your information
You have the right to ask what personal information JCBC holds about you, to ask us to correct it, and to ask how it is used. We will respond to reasonable requests within a reasonable time, as required by PIPA.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or as long as the law requires, for example financial records for donation receipts. When we no longer need it, we securely destroy or anonymize it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.

If you have questions about this policy, or want to access, correct, or withdraw consent for your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer.
